Mexico, July-November 2010
July 2010, Eikosphere Productions began working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cacao Productions, City Productions, and other partners on a multi-platform communication effort for COP 16. August, we began our pre-production and scouting to produce one of the first 3D short films to be made in Mexico called In Lak’ech Ala K’in. The film title is an ancient Mayan greeting; which directly translated means; I am another, yourself or I am you, you are me. Indeed, this greeting reminds us that we are synergistically and intimately bond to one another in the web of life. Our 3D film is the personal journey of a young business investor in Mexico City remembering that the real economics of his wealthy existence in the urban jungle are vitally based on the wealth and abundance of natural capital in the Chiapas, his home. The main character, Jag, is also tied to the Jaguar, the most powerful animal totem in Mayan culture. Thus, the story is also one of the modern-day jaguar’s return to the forest to protect mother earth; just as the Sun God in Mayan legend travels through the underworld to the forest in order to overcome humanity’s destruction of it.
